The Cadbury Company recalled 11 of its products in China after detecting melamine. Melamine is the same chemical recently found in the toxic baby milk scandal. Four deaths in China have also been blamed on the chemical.

Cadbury PLC is recalling chocolate made in its China factory. The industrial chemical melamine was found in its Beijing factory. The chemical was found after it was unveiled in early tests.

"As a result of these tests ... we have received results that cast doubt on the integrity of a range of our products manufactured in China. As a result, we believe it is appropriate to take a precautionary step to withdraw from the market all of our Cadbury chocolate products that were manufactured in our Beijing plant," the company said in a statement.

The chocolate company says the recall are on items sold in parts of Asia and the Pacific. A spokesperson for the Hershey company, which is Cadbury's sole distributor in the United States, says Cadbury chocolates sold in the US are not affected.

Cadbury said tests had cast doubt on the safety of its Chinese-made products. The company said it was too early to say how much melamine had been found.

Melamine has sickened 54,000 children in China. Ten other Cadbury products have been recalled in Taiwan and Hong Kong, including bulk blocks of Dairy Milk chocolate.
