Hurricane Ike is a dangerous Category 4 storm. The storm is expected to take a similar track as Gustav which concerns Louisiana. Portions of South Florida residents were asked to evacuate.

Hurricane Ike is a Category 4 hurricane with wind speeds of 135 mph with an 18-foot storm surge as it passed through Cuba.

The storm hit Cuba's northeast coast, north of Guantanamo Bay, after ripping through the Bahamas. Hundreds of thousands of Cuban residents have moved inland. Authorities closed down prime resorts and uses buses to transport tourists.

Florida Keys residents were asked to evacuate as Ike approaches the Gulf of Mexico.

Forecasters fear that Ike could follow a similar path as Hurricane Gustav. The warmer waters in the Gulf could build the storm back to a Category 4. Computer models show the path heading towards Louisiana and Texas. The hurricane could possibly threaten New Orleans once again.

In the Gulf, several oil companies are preparing for evacuations. The energy rigs supply 15 percent of U.S. natural gas and oil.

A new update from the National Hurricane Center is expected on Monday. The update will provide accurate computer models on likely paths on where the storm will make its third landfall.
