NASA Delays Hubble Space Telescope Mission
NASA has postponed two shuttle missions as well as the final repair on the Hubble Space Telescope.NASA has announced that they have delayed a mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, pushing the mission back from August 28 to October 8. The delay is being caused by the fact that it is taking longer than expected to build the fuel tanks needed for the repair mission. The external fuel tank’s design was changed following the 2003 Columbia disaster. The mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope will have 7 astronauts heading up into space aboard the space shuttle Atlantis. They will upgrade and repair the 18-year old telescope for the last time, as this will be the last upgrade mission. Atlantis' August mission to repair the Hubble space telescope, and Endeavour's supply mission to the International Space Station have both been pushed back. Meanwhile, final preparations for the upcoming launch of space shuttle Discovery are under way. Discovery is scheduled to launch May 31 at 5:02 p.m. for a 14-day mission to the International Space Station.
