Microsoft Corp on Thursday released a security update to address what it called a critical vulnerability. Microsoft patches what could allow an attacker to take control of a user's Windows computer. The network security updates are for Windows XP, Windows Vista and the beta version of Windows 7.
Federal authorities will charge a hacker that launched a DDOS attack against the Church of Scientology Web sites. The hacker faces a felony and up to 10 years in federal prison for the DDOS attack. The Church of Scientology was founded in 1954 by science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard.

A DDOS attack against the Church of Scientology has prompted a confession from a teenage hacker. The teenage hacker will plead guilty for the DDOS attack in federal court and faces up to 10 years in federal prison. The distributed denial of service attack happened in January.
Cisco TelePresense is a high-definition video conferencing service. The service is packaged with built-in microphone, video screens and camera lenses for $299 to $899 per hour. Cisco hopes to open 100 additional rooms by the end of 2009.

The network security company has made a decision to cease operations within its Broadband Telephony Services unit. A spokesman for the company says the layoffs are not related to the slowing economy.

Jabber provides instant messaging software used on cross-platform networks. The product is compatible with Google Talk, AOL AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Microsoft Office Communications Server and IBM Sametime. The Denver-based company was founded in early 2000.
