Pope Benedict XVI will address the United Nations' General Assembly on Friday as part of his first visit to the United States.

The Pope is expected to address significant issues such as religious freedom as a pillar of human rights, and aid for developing countries. The Pope will use the opportunity to advocate for peace and harmony among the world's nations.

The Pope will also lead mass for priests, deacons and other clergy at Manhattan's St. Patrick's Cathedral.

The Pope has taken the opportunity during his U.S. visit to make efforts to repair the damage done by the sexual abuse scandal that has engulfed the Church in the U.S. On Thursday, he prayed with abuse victims from Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley's archdiocese.

The Roman Chatholic Church head has paid considerable attention to the scandal, including acknowledging the suffering of victims during a mass for 45,000 people at Washington's Nationals Park baseball stadium.

On Thursday the pope celebrated an open-air mass at the Nationals stadium in Washington D.C. before a crowd of 40,000 people.

After the mass he personally apologized to victims of sexual abuse by American Catholic clergy in individual meetings.

Accompanied by Cardinal Sean O'Malley, the archbishop of Boston, the Pope told half a dozen victims he would pray for them and their families.
