Tropical Storm Hanna Motions Towards Florida
Tropical storm Hanna is expected to become a hurricane during the next 24 hours. The storm is currently moving past the Bahamas in a north westward direction.Tropical storm Hanna is less than 90 miles southwest of Grand Turk Island. The storm is moving at 2 mph. The direction of the storm surprised forecasters as it made a turn to the east. However, the storm is expected to make a turn to the northwest later today. A hurricane watch is in effect for the north west Bahamas and Florida by later today. A tropical storm warning is in effect for Haiti and the northern border of the Dominican Republic. The National Weather Service has asked residents in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina to monitor the status of Hanna. The storm is expected to reach sustained winds of 60 mph later today. Rainfall of 6 to 10 inches is possible in areas of Florida during the next two days. Long periods of swells are expected to increase the risk of dangerous rip currents along parts of Florida as well. The Atlantic currently has three storms, Hanna, Ike and Josephine.
