Chevy Volt 2011 Earns Car Of The Year Award
Chevy Volt 2011 earns Car of the Year award. Chevy is back in the game as their 2011 Volt has been named Motor Trend Car of the Year. The annual award is one of the most prestigious honors in the auto industry.
The Chevy Volt is an electric car that uses gas to create its own electricity. When charged overnight, it can run on a pure electric charge for up to 40 miles, gas and emissions free. After that the gas engine kicks in and starts to provide power to the motor.
This vehicle uses a range-extending gas generator that produces enough energy to power it for hundreds of miles on a single tank of gas. When running the gas engine, the four-passenger Volt has an EPA estimated mileage of 35 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. If the tank is full and the battery is completely charged it can travel 379 miles.
Volt drivers and passengers have many standard safety features. Safety is obviously a top priority. It has eight air bags and an unprecedented five-year subscription to OnStar’s (12) Directions and Connections Plan, including Automatic Crash Response. The Volt’s starting price is $41,000.
