Singer Elton John was admitted at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday and hospitalized for a respiratory infection. All Las Vegas shows have been canceled at Caesars Palace through Memorial Day weekend.
ET reports that John developed a serious rinfection last weekend that has not improved, requiring his admission to the Los Angeles hospital. He is being treated with antibiotics, and doctors have instructed the pop music star not to perform for at least seven days.
In a statement issued by the singer regarding his illness and show cancellation the musician said, “It feels strange not to be able to perform these ‘Million Dollar Piano’ concerts at The Colosseum … I will be thrilled when we return to The Colosseum in October to complete the eleven concerts soon to be scheduled … All I can say to the fans is sorry I can’t be with you. I hope to see you soon at this wonderful theatre at Caesars Palace.”
John’s music career spans four decades with more than 250 million records sold.
In addition to his music, he is also a father.
In December 2010 the music celebrity and his husband, David Furnish, welcomed a baby boy, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John.
